A while back we had a copy of the Family Planning’s brochure titled: “Unplanned Pregnancy”given to us.
It’s a fairly typical Family Planning brochure (they were previously known as the NZ Family Planning Association – FPA – in order to not confuse them with the term family planning, we have referred to them as FPA for the rest of the post) , complete with the rather drab FPA colours that are the hallmarks of most FPA propaganda material – they are colors which just reek of the uncomfortable, one-dimensional, outdated and lifeless ideologies that the FPA promotes, so I supposes it’s a good branding fit.
But I digress, for I am not writing this column today to highlight the design of this brochure, instead it’s the information inside the brochure that really caught my attention.
You see, this little pamphlet starts out harmless enough, with one or two paragraphs about being in a crisis-pregnancy and the need to discuss the issue with other people, etc.
Then things start to get a little more interesting.
Firstly, the pamphlet lists four options open to someone facing a crisis-pregnancy in NZ, they are:
- Parent your child
- Adoption
- Guardianship
- Request an abortion
